Timeblocking

We’ve all experienced the woes of time management at work. You wake up hopeful and optimistic—not only will you meet all your deadlines, but you’ll hit the gym and make a healthy home-cooked meal, too.

…Then life happens.

Russ and the sales team have been working hard on implementing time management strategies to increase productivity.  And as I participate in those meetings I realize I need a lot of help in that area as well. While there are many baby steps we can take to improve, I thought I would share a couple of steps that I am working on with myself.

Prioritize wisely

  • Important and urgent (do now)

  • Important but not urgent (decide when to do before they are urgent)

  • Urgent but not important (delegate and minimize)

  • Not urgent and not important (eliminate as able)

Assign time limits to tasks

Time blocking/timeboxing (set time limits on tasks instead of working until they’re done).  This will help not to feel overwhelmed by your highly prioritized To-Do list.

Remember the 80/20 rule – 80% of your output comes from 20% of your effort.  Focus your efforts  - and time spent - accordingly.  I hope we can all utilize our time more wisely and effectively.
